Re: Request bv the Government of the Republic of Cvprus for the renewal of the
Memorandum of Understanding with the USA Government, concerninq the
imposition of import restrictions on pre-classical and classical archaeoloqical
obiects and Byzantine period ecclesiastical and ritual ethnological material.
2 March 2007
I wish to refer to the above issue and on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
of the Government of the Republic of Cyprus, I would like to express our deep gratitude
for your immediate response to our request to send letters to the Cultural Heritage
Center, in support of the Cypriot request submitted to the Government of the USA for the
renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding, concerning the imposition of import
restrictions on pre-classical and classical archaeological objects and Byzantine period
ecclesiastical and ritual ethnological material.
We strongly believe that the satisfactory presentation by the Cyprus delegation of
our request in frond of the Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the
USA, as well as the large number of supportive letters sent to the Cultural Heritage
Center, will significantly contribute to the acceptance of the renewal of the said MOU and
hopefully, the inclusion of Cypriot coins.
Once more, I wish to sincerely thank you for your constant interest for the
protection and preservation of the cultural and religious heritage of Cyprus and in
particular, your contribution to the efforts of the Government of the Republic of Cyprus
for the renewal of the said MOU with the Government of the USA.
Yours sincerely
